Well, the only thing to do is look it up in the dictionary of course.

If I must count the years, that I have seen anime on a daily basis, which has increased my vocabulary, then for over 6 years. XD
I don’t study on a permanent basis (because of time issues), well not counting my daily anime dose which is more like fun but learning, so it I can’t really tell the time I have spent on really learning the language.

Well, I don’t know japanese as much as I want. So I have still a long way to go. ^_^

I have a few german books (including Learning CDs) about japanese and have also read about it in the Internet.
And well, I have seen Anime in japanese with english subtitles for the last six or seven years on a daily basis. It helped a lot for my japanese vocabulary. ^^

If you have a good vocabulary of japanese words and know the hiragana and katakana, then an visual novel shouldn’t be a too big problem.
